Khoa Dao crossed the finish line of the HOKA Chicago Half Marathon Sunday along Chicago's lakefront feeling proud, having just run 15 minutes faster than his previous record. Unfortunately, however, several days after finishing he learned that its course had actually been reduced from 13.1 miles to 12.6.
“People pay to participate and expect to run all 13,” Dao lamented, not wanting to be surprised by a last-minute change of route resulting in traffic issues around Soldier Field requiring course adjustments “just prior to event”. HOKA One Chicago Half Marathon organizers released information that they changed course just prior to event due to traffic flow issues at Soldier Field resulting in traffic flow issues at its conclusion.
