Skopje Marathon
The Skopje Marathon, as its name suggests, is one of the city's most beloved races. Held annually at the beginning of May, this annual celebration of health, fitness and willpower draws in both locals and visitors to Skopje – both competing together or supporting loved ones in competition or cheering them along their journeys.
The competition, hosted by the city's governing body and featuring five races: full marathon, half-marathon, marathon relay and 5k race, has attracted record participation this year. Organisers are making efforts to promote each of these events – efforts which appear to have paid off with record participation numbers in this year's run.
Dario Ivanovski won first prize with a time of 1 hour 9 minutes 10 seconds, followed by Atanas Anchevski and Milos Rancic from Macedonia. Mirjana Ristikj placed first among women with her time of 1 hour 29 minutes 15 seconds; all other top 10 finishers from Macedonia as well.
If you plan to participate in the Skopje Marathon, make sure that you prepare properly by practicing for several weeks prior. A great way of doing this is running on a treadmill; long walks will also help build endurance and speed.
