This event starts in front of the iconic Towers and runs throughout the rides in the theme park, creating an incredible race experience and providing unique day tripper enjoyment – plus your ticket includes admission into the theme park!

Run Alton Towers will be Britain’s inaugural run event of its kind at Britain’s premier theme park, taking place from 11 to 12 November 2023 and featuring 5k, 10k and half marathon distances that traverse paths and roads throughout the resort. Participants can enjoy chip timing, professional race organization and free event photos along with special themed medals as well as ride access post race.

This course features undulating terrain that leads runners past rides, gardens and the boating lake. Along the route are attractions such as rides like TH13TEEN and Rita in the Dark Forest; CBeebies Land with Oblivion Smiler Oblivion Oblivion Smiler Oblivion Oblivion Oblivion Oblivion; Mutiny Bay Lake through Katanga Canyon into Nemesis with runners also opting to skip parts if desired for rest breaks.

Spectators can watch the race from various vantage points, such as outside of the resort’s main entrance and park gardens. They may also attend the post-race party featuring live music and entertainment, and purchase food and drink from vendors in the main race village. Those with purchased a spectator ticket will receive it prior to race day in their mailbox.

Participants in the Alton Towers Half Marathon may register either online or via phone; there will be an entry fee of PS15 for the half marathon and PS7 for 5K runners; tickets include a bespoke finisher’s medal, goodie bag and Alzheimer’s Research UK technical running top as part of their entry ticket price.

RunThrough Events, known for their successful events, will organize this race. Their experienced race directors and volunteers ensure a high quality experience, with helpers on course keeping runners motivated throughout their run and encouraging them every step of the way. At the conclusion of each run they can refuel themselves at our food and beverage station!

Spectator tickets

Spectators are welcome to watch their friends and family participate in this event as spectators. Tickets for spectators include park entry with access to all rides for one day; this provides the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with loved ones while supporting them on their pursuit of personal bests.

Races at Britain’s premier theme park, Thorpe Park, are open to runners of all abilities and run alongside its roads and paths before culminating with a start/finish line in front of its castle. Both 5K and 10K options are offered and all participants receive a commemorative medal after finishing.

If you plan on attending the Alton Towers Half Marathon to support friends or family members running it, it is wise to plan meeting points in advance. This will avoid confusion or miscommunication regarding meeting locations if you are unfamiliar with the area and public transportation is likely to be busier than usual – to plan ahead, check out travel options available through official site and leave plenty of time for travel arrangements.

Make sure that you bring plenty of water and food, comfortable shoes, sunscreen and portable batteries for your phone/camera as you race through the heat! Remembering all these details will ensure an amazing day out in the sun with friends.

Alton Towers Half Marathon’s course differs significantly from most races; starting from the main entrance and passing many of the park’s popular rides before running through gardens and around a boating lake before reaching Castle finish line – runners can then enjoy free access to rides after finishing!

Pre-race information

Start and finish at one of Britain’s biggest theme parks for a unique event of its kind! Boasting three distance options – 5k, 10k and Half Marathon – the race welcomes runners of all abilities and features 3 distance options (5k, 10k and Half Marathon). All participants will receive an individual themed medal after taking part as well as access to rides after their run! Additionally, participants can access an event village and free parking throughout their race experience!

Friends and family looking to watch their loved ones running the race can purchase spectator tickets from the registration desk in the Event Village entrance, starting at 9:40am. Spectators without tickets may still watch from outside; however they will not have access to the start line.

Make sure that you can finish in 3 hours for maximum participation! All participants will receive free race photos, discount vouchers from sponsored brands and water both during and post-race – not forgetting a bespoke medal and technical running top are also part of their entry price!

This year’s race will benefit RBLI, an organization dedicated to serving veterans and the armed forces community through employment, housing and rehabilitation services. Proceeds from the event will directly support its work across the country.

Race day information

At 9:40am, runners will gather for a warm up at the event village before being called forward by estimated finish time and led into a starting pen. Please ensure you arrive early so as to have plenty of time to collect your number, race kit, and reach the starting line on time – the Half Marathon event has a strict 3-hour cut-off time so please ensure you can complete this distance within this period before registering for it.

Spectator tickets provide friends and family members access to cheer on runners throughout the course, including free park entry the day after. Tickets can be purchased either online or at registration desks. If purchased prior to Monday 10th October you should receive a physical ticket in the post (this may arrive separately from your race entry pack).

There will be a baggage drop area available on site where you can leave belongings while running, however you will require your race bib in order to collect it later. Alternatively, informal baggage facilities in the event village are also available, provided your bag has been marked with your race number tag.
