Runner’s World Magazine selected the Utah Valley Marathon as its “Best Marathon for 2014.” Reviewers for Runner’s World selected it based on its scenic course and excellent organization; in addition, this race ranked as one of the 10 Boston Marathon qualifiers nationwide and sells out quickly so runners should sign up early! This race begins in Wallsburg, Utah and runs to Provo Canyon. Along the route are views of Bridal Veil Falls and mountains. Historic downtown Provo can also be seen along its route. USATF certified as well as qualifying for Boston Marathon!
Some of the world’s top runners have competed in Utah Valley Marathon. Bryant Jensen won both men’s and women’s titles at that year’s race; both winners hailing from Utah. These wins cemented Utah as an epicenter for elite marathoners.

Fast & Scenic Course
Utah Valley Marathon offers one of the most breathtaking and fast courses in all of the USA. Beginning in Wallsburg and running to Provo Canyon through Utah County’s varied scenery, runners will follow canyon roads and the Provo River through breathtaking canyon views such as Deer Creek Reservoir, Provo Canyon and more. The marathon course itself is almost all downhill with very few turns along its course, giving runners speed gain every mile along this stunning course.
After mile 20, runners will emerge from the canyon and head toward downtown Provo City, enjoying breathtaking views of Brigham Young University’s LaVell Edwards Stadium and Provo itself. But this part of the race also presents one of its tougher challenges – around mile 23 there is a slight uphill, but not steep enough to pose much difficulty for most runners; after that it is almost exclusively downhill until reaching the finish line in front of historic Provo Tabernacle and Utah County Courthouse!
Provo is located in northern central Utah and is known for being home to thousands of Mormons as well as being an “athlete-rich environment.” As evidenced by its race that attracts some of the best runners from around the globe and local runners alike. Furthermore, Provo provides a great place for individuals from around the globe who wish to test their endurance while experiencing Utah’s famed running scene first-hand.

Awards & Prizes

All runners who complete the full Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K races in Utah will receive a medal upon completing. In addition, there is the possibility of earning the Utah State Record bonus prize if their time surpasses any previously set marathon time of either gender in Utah.

This race boasts a distinct point-to-point course that pays tribute to the Central Wasatch Mountains, starting from Jordanelle Reservoir and finishing within Heber City, via highways and picturesque country roads. The first half features an irregular B-line with 646ft climb and 1083ft descent, while second half meanders through tree-lined neighborhoods of Heber Valley before passing green pastures to Soldier Hollow Nordic Center.
Utah Valley Marathon is an official USATF Boston Qualifier held annually in Utah. This marathon supports four main charities – CharityVision, Mentor’s International, Mac’s Gift and Road to Success – through four main charitable foundations that include CharityVision, Mentor’s International, Mac’s Gift and Road to Success. Originally held in April 2008 and running until 2018, this race took place annually on the second Saturday in June; since 2018 however it has moved up one week so as to avoid conflicts with other events in the area. Cash prizes are given out for overall top male and female finishers as well as top finishers within each of 18 age groups for medals awarded on completion.
