Are you seeking more information on how to run your broad street run 2022 race in the most effective way possible? If so, welcome to RunDreamAchieve. I am happy you have arrived here to the home of running tips. I have run 50:54 for 10 miles and certainly know how hard it is to run this event fast. The 10 mile distance is a combination of both aerobic and anaerobic racing. So, it takes a mixture of both and time spend adequately at speeds faster than goal race pace that will dictate your success. One of the top recommendations I can make to get your 10 mile time faster is faster long runs.
Yes, you definitely need to focus on your speed development to get faster over 10 miles. That being said, it is also critical to improve upon your lactate tolerance too. The 10 mile event still demands that athletes have a high level of anaerobic fitness. It is not as anaerobic of an event as compared with the mile or 5K. What it does require is for you to stay as relaxed as you can and maintain pace under high lactic acid build up. Remember, long, slow and easy long runs will build endurance but you still need stamina and strength. I started doing faster long runs and started to drop significant time off of all of my race distances. For example, lowering my half marathon from 1:10:31 to 1:07:06. In addition, my marathon best from 2:43:36 to 2:19:35.
How Much Does the Broad Street Run Cost?
The broad street run 2022 event will cost athletes $57 USD in order to participate. I always recommend getting registered and the race paid for months in advance. So, you won’t have to pay the highest prices. In addition, you will book your room before the crowd of people start to arrive. The broad street 10 miler is an extremely competitive. I would rank it probably the most competitive in the united States of America. The second and third fastest being the Cherry Blossom 10 miler and the Army ten miler. The broad street run 2022 race will take place over a pancake flat course too. So, if you are aiming to set a new personal best this is the race to consider.
I highly recommend looking into our running courses and training plans as you lead into your races in 2022 and beyond. I was very fortunate to have been coached by three of the world’s top distance running coaches.
- Dr. Joe Vigil – world-renowned exercise physiologist
- Jack Hazen – 2012 Olympic mens and womens distance running coach
- Lisa Rainsberger – 1985 Boston marathon champion
So, what I have been taught from these giants of the sport I share with you in these resources. Again, it is much easier to train when you know what you should be doing on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. It isn’t about the volume you are doing as much as it is how you are setting up that volume. My goal is to help you to use leverage. Leverage means simply to do more with less. We all have been taught how to work hard. Well, the hardest working athletes don’t always get the best results. The smartest trained athletes usually do.
How Long is the Broad Street Run in Philadelphia?
The broad street run 2022 event will be 10 miles in length. The race runs its way from North Philadelphia to the Navy Yard which is locate on the Delaware River waterfront in South Philadelphia. It is also an extremely competitive race with the winner usually running between 45 to 46 minutes. The training plans and running courses I have built here at RunDreamAchieve are 16-weeks in length. 4 months is plenty of time to prepare for any 10 mile road race. The focus should always be on training at, near and far below your goal 10 mile race pace.
Again, the key here is to get that goal 10 mile race pace to feel easier. You will not get it to feel less demanding unless you are working on your speed development. We do 1, vo2 max workout per week, 1 tempo run and 1 long run. Of course, we don’t set up the training where you are running long, slow and easy every weekend. The mindset is to do a faster paced long run one weekend followed by an easy, relaxed long run the following weekend. The reason is I want to ensure you are recovering from the hard training you are doing. In addition, every 4th week is a recovery week. So, we slightly drop your volume but maintain intensity during that recovery week.
How Many People are Running the Broad Street Run?
The broad street 10 mile run usually has about 40,000 total runners and non-runners that participate in it. It is one of the most competitive 10 miler events in the world. So, make sure you make training the most difficult part of your preparation. The reason I write that is to that when you get to the race there will be nothing your competition can throw at you. You have already tried everything in training so that you can react to any surges they try to throw at you in the race. Remember, don’t get too hyped up and go out too fast in the early miles of the race. You want to run that second half faster than the first half if you can.
I do have training plans built specifically for runners seeking to run faster over the 10 mile distance. So, definitely check those out. Again, the strategy is to work smarter, not harder. What percentage of your weekly mileage are you training at, near or far below goal 10 miler race pace? Is it 10? 30%? I would recommend 40 to 45 percent. The real reason the best middle to long distance runners make it look easy is for this very reason. They spend a higher percentage of their weekly volume spent training at very fast speeds. I believe in a 10-day rather than a 3-week taper. Of course, a 3-week taper can and many times does serve runners in a positive way. That being said, many of the runners I coach online are getting some big PRs from using this strategy.
Also, do not forget to mentally train for the broad street run 2022 event. You always want to visualize yourself succeeding and running the way you are envisioning. We all focus so heavily on physical training and often times neglect mental training. In fact, mental training is more important than physical training. Yes, you absolutely must prepare physically for the race. That being said, there is no test for the power of the mind. The subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between reality and imagination. So, spend 10 to 15 minutes every day visualizing yourself performing the way you are dreaming about.
Remember, also pay attention to practicing drinking during your long runs. A big mistake runners make is they are not hydrating well enough in their races. In addition, they are not taking in any calories. One of the top ways to get more out of your racing is to pay attention to these vital variables. Your competition may not be paying attention to these tactics. So, you have to think outside the box. We all have 3 choices in the sport. We can be average, good or great. Greatness takes a great deal more effort, patience and focus to race at a very high level. Make sure to check out the RunDreamAchieve YouTube channel. I create new content each week to help runners such as yourself get to the next level in their racing.
