Runners’ Paradise

Florida's Space Coast is known for being a runner's paradise with scenic courses winding their way along the Indian River in Cocoa and Cocoa Beach. Attracting participants from around the world, participants come here every year for the Cocoa Beach Marathon to experience this magnificent setting and participate in this historic race honoring our nation's space program heritage.

This event provides full and half marathon options on a USATF certified waterfront course. Starting in Cocoa Village, runners follow an undulating course past Kennedy Space Center before reaching Lee Wenner Park and Cocoa Riverfront Park where supporters can cheer them across the finish line.

runners can enjoy stunning views of both the Atlantic Ocean and Indian River while running this challenging course. It features long, flat stretches shaded by palm trees with cool ocean breezes offering welcome relief during early morning runs.

Power of Pizza Charities will host this year's races with an all-new race committee and exciting changes to the course. SCR is honored that Gary and Ray serve as co-chairs for this well-established, competitive race in Brevard County.

At this year's race, SCR members can gain points towards their Runner of the Year Series points total. To qualify for this series, it's necessary to register both for both marathon and half marathon races in order to earn your points.

The Course

Florida's Space Coast offers runners an idyllic running environment. Boasting scenic landscapes and great weather conditions, runners of any ability will find paradise here, from 5Ks and marathons alike. There are miles of riverside trails and beaches perfect for stretching legs and raising endorphin levels!

Space Coast Marathon offers participants an unforgettable USATF-certified waterfront course on the East Coast that evokes all the thrills and heritage of NASA's historic space program, offering both inspiring and challenging courses each year on Thanksgiving Sunday after thanksgiving. Hosted by Running Zone Foundation and Space Coast Runners, the Boston Marathon-qualifying race attracts runners from around the globe.

The full marathon and north half marathon courses start in Cocoa Village and follow Indian River Drive south to a turnaround point, then back north again before ending at Lee Wenner Park/Cocoa Riverfront Park for family and friend to cheer them across the finish line. A separate loop of this marathon course serves as the Space Coast Runners Runner of the Year Series points scoring area.

David Kilgore of Palm Bay and Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame member Romain Carette took home this year's Boston qualifier marathon race held under cooler conditions by 19 seconds in the Marathon category.

Pre-Race Activities

Space Coast Runners is honored to sponsor this annual 5K run in honor of SCR member Rick Foresteire. The race follows the picturesque Indian River through downtown Cocoa and offers fun for runners of all ages with raffle prizes galore including an adorable Golden Egg! Participation in this event is free; finishers receive both an outstanding medallion and beach towel upon completion of their run.

Space Coast Runners' Runner of the Year Series allows members who participate to earn points towards ROY recognition. 2023 Marathon & Half Marathon participants may select either course: the north half marathon course is designated to count towards ROY points; while its south counterpart does not. Both races count towards Ran All Races participation.

On race weekend, Downtown Cocoa offers plenty of dining and entertainment options for race participants to enjoy! Restaurants open early, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner services specifically tailored to race attendees!

Are You Training for the Race

Our Training Camp tab on our website showcases our offerings this fall: 20 week full marathon training camp and 14 week half marathon training camps available to beginner to experienced runners alike! Training takes place Tuesday evenings at Oars & Paddles in Cocoa Beach and Wednesday mornings at Addison Village with weekly 1-hour group strength sessions held at New Wave PT & Sports Rehab to address common strength and mobility imbalances associated with distance running.

Post-Race Activities

Florida's Space Coast is a runner's haven, offering runners of all abilities an abundance of beautiful riverside and beach running courses to stretch their legs and release endorphins. Brevard County hosts races to meet any need or interest; whether that means leisurely 5Ks or full marathons there will surely be one suitable.

The Space Coast Marathon, part of Florida's Mission to Mars Series, is an efficient Boston qualifier event run along one of Florida's most picturesque waterfront courses – starting in historic Cocoa Village and finishing at Lee Wenner Park and Cocoa Riverfront Park so family and friends can cheer for finishers.

runners will experience long, flat stretches shaded by beautiful palm trees along the Indian River. This course connects Cocoa and Cocoa Beach, passing by Historic Cocoa Village, The Cocoa Arts Council and Cocoa Convention Center along the way. At completion, participants will receive both a medal and towel to commemorate their accomplishments while honoring NASA's space program history and heritage.

Closing Thoughts

SCR members participating in the Runner of the Year Series races can earn points in this and the North Half Marathon races towards their 2023 ROY totals. Virtual race options are also available if individuals cannot attend on November 17th; virtual participation counts towards Ran All Races totals.

Important! Shuttle buses will begin departing host hotels for the race at 10:00a.m, returning at 2:00p.m.

Please ensure your registration details are correct, especially your email address, so we can effectively communicate important race updates. Also note that sharing or giving away your race number to someone else violates race policy and could jeopardize future participation. If you cannot make race day itself, consider signing up for our satellite virtual option which allows you to complete your distance at your own leisure until November 17 – you will still receive both finisher medals (if eligible) upon finishing.
