Recreational Running And Why We All Need It

Recreational Running

Our sport is demanding but recreational running is different.

It isn’t that recreational runners are any less worthy of prestige or winning races.

Their viewpoint of running isn’t to qualify for the Boston Marathon, earn a ticket to the Olympic Trials or win their age group at the local road race.

They simply want to enjoy the activity running provides, spend time with friends or perhaps even run with their pet.

If you are in the recreational running category and agree with what I mentioned above I commend you simply for getting out the door and taking care of yourself.

A big reason why I write a lot about entrepreneurship here on rundreamachieve is because I feel we are living in a society that is so focused on earning a living that people barely have the time to enjoy their lives.

We have become masters of the 9-to-5 or if you are military the 5-to-7.

Do you feel overwhelmed like you have been giving all your time and attention to your boss, co-workers or friends and yet not taking the time to enjoy a little recreational running?

There is a point where we have to ask ourselves,

Obesity and Time

There are a lot of people who have so much more potential but due to life’s responsibilities and living in a culture that favors self-sacrifice rather than self- responsibility, people are not taking the time for themselves much anymore

My heart has always been with those who are overweight and dealing with learning the best methods to drop weight fast.

Recreational running is a start and runners who are in this category aren’t concerned with running 100 miles a week or hitting 6, repeats on the track at 4.45.

They just want to be healthier and we all can learn from that mindset.

Health and time are more important than money

A major problem I see with people in my own work environment is that they are unhappy, drained and accepting where they are at.

Wouldn’t we all get up and make a change if we could?

No one is telling you or I we can’t, yet for whatever reason people act as if remaining in their place of employment is their just due.

It isn’t.

I am a very serious athlete but I hold those in high regard who still participate in recreational running because you all remind me of what is most important.

Owning our time and our health.

The paycheck cannot give you any more hours in your day and the boss keeping you at work until 8pm at night when you barely have the time to spend with your spouse, loved one or yourself, rids a lot of people of health.

We make the time to please the boss yet forego our own health and when you are working more hours on the job than you are on yourself, that alone should be enough to tell you a change needs to be made.

What Can We Learn From This

Do you notice a lot of people doing the same thing, thinking the same way, paying attention to negative news and media?

How does it make you feel?

I work with a woman who has been an employee in the hospital I work in as a military officer, for the past 28 years.

I remember a day where she walked into a meeting with tears in her eyes and told me,

CPT Pennington, if I could quit today I would. I am tired of being treated badly

All I could think to myself is

Why do so many people focus on making a living, working for money and not pay attention to fundamentals that could financially free them and  make money work for them?

If you are stressed out and frustrated, don’t be.

You need to take alternative actions if you are feeling the way you do.

People need to know that there are those who, like them, are fed up with having little time to take care of themselves and their family.

Work responsibilities are weighing on them.

Recreational running is anyone’s first step in taking control of their health, what I have shared throughout rundreamchieve is a way for you and others to take control of your emotional and financial health.

Running takes action, you have to get moving, out the door to lose weight, to feel that sense of release, like you truly accomplished something.

Choices For Our Health And Well-Being

Again, only my own opinion but I am sure that there are many people who feel the way I do.

We have become so task oriented here in the United States that people are now working longer hours, have become more stressed, less happy and more and more are able to do the things in their life that they would like.

This needs to change.

There comes a point where all the toys and material things will not bring you happiness.

The majority of people want to live comfortably, to do that you need money, not living paycheck to paycheck barely paying your bills on time.

Recreational running teaches us to get away from what our jobs asks of us and to simply think about our own life, family, goals, things we truly want to do.

Are we really taking the time to figure this out?

I hope when you are out training like I am that you are.

Our time is limited and the majority of the working world have no control of what they can do during the ‘work week’.

Your income is tied to the amount of money you earn per hour.

How many people do you know that do not work yet still earn income.

The rest are co-workers, family and friends who work for money, not the other way around.

Take Charge Of Your Life And Time

Pursue the goals in life you had when you were a child, perhaps you already do what you love and have achieved that goal.

You are the minority.

What recreational running teaches those who participate in it is a way to be free, if only for a few minutes, from life’s stressors.

Some stress is good, some bad but anytime you have something that is stealing your time away from being creative or doing something you love is not time well spent.

Life should not be about how to brag to your co-workers about how long you stayed at the office last night.

This is what I have heard the past 12 years as an employee.

I am an entrepreneur part-time until I transfer to being able to do it full time.

If your environment is negative or all you hear is people talking about every negative story on the news (and there are plenty if you are a television watcher), how is this supposed to benefit you.

One of the best things you have going for you is recreational running and the ability to choose, at any given moment, to make a change to control your time and financial future.

The majority of people, although highly driven, disciplined, subject matter experts will continue to work for money without ever taking the time to learn how to make it work for them.

This is a travesty.

I love motivation and helping other people and my reasoning for creating rundreamachieve was to do exactly that.

Running has helped me to be more creative, to remain fit and to help other people in their quest.

Recreational running can help gain back some of the time that was taken from you during the day by co-workers and your employer and give it back to you in the form of doing something for yourself.

Running is a way to help you take care of your body.

Learning skills that your teachers and most certainly your co-workers and employer will not teach you, is something you can do to gain leverage of your most priceless and precious asset, your time.
