Is 4 Week Sufficient Time To Prepare?
I will say that 4 weeks is a short amount of time to prepare for a marathon. Can you produce a great marathon finish with 1 month of training? Yes, absolutely. You don't necessarily need to run for 16 or 20 weeks in a row to complete a marathon.
So, quality over quantity is the key. This is where many marathoners make the same routine mistake. They feel running more miles will make them a better marathoner. Well, I ran as high as 142 miles a week and it didn't produce the results I was seeking.
My marathon PR of 2:19:35 came off of running 85 to 90 miles per week. What percentage of your weekly mileage is spent training at or below your goal marathon race pace? Are you running too slow for too many miles? These could be the reasons you are not making big progress in the marathon distance.
