Performance coaches help people take what they think is possible to a new level. Let’s face it. We all have preconceived idea of what we think we can do. The problem is we underestimate ourselves. In addition, the time it will take to reach the goals that we have set for ourselves. Hiring a performance coach can help speed up the learning curve. One of the biggest mistakes I made as a marathoner was running long runs far too slow. Yes, I was consistent but every weekend I would run long and slow. So, the problem was not a lack of desire or focus. The issue was I was setting up my training in the wrong way.

A performance coach is someone that has extensive background in motivation, achieving goals and have a focus on helping others. The goal of performance coaches is helping others to surpass their goals and dreams. In addition, their attention is not center-focused but on those they serve. A performance coach knows the importance of delayed gratification. We as athletes already are motivated and goal-oriented. I have also found that those focused on entrepreneurial pursuits are very similar to athletes. They are seeking to get to the next level in what they do. Average people are not visiting

The people that visit this website are goal oriented. In addition, they are seeking to take their training and racing to the next level. The world-class fitness coaches that I have worked with helped me to eventually run 2:19:35 for the marathon. I was able to hold 5:19 per mile or 3:18 per kilometer for the 26.2 mile or 42.2 kilometer distance on that day.

I have seen performance coaches charging over $20,000 USD per month for their expertise. Of course, this is an investment and there are some people who can handle these charges. What Do High Performance Coaches Do?

High performance coaches work closely with clients helping them correct leaks in their training. One of the biggest mistakes I see runners making is running too many miles or kilometers too slow. They are having issues sustaining race pace in their races and wonder why they aren’t getting the results they are seeking. Again, it isn’t a lack of motivation or focus. It is simply that there are leaks in the training that they are doing that need to be fixed. Would you rather run 50 miles a week and get your fitness goals or 100 miles a week and miss them? So, it isn’t about the volume of mileage you are putting in as much as it is the quality of the work done.

Does that make sense? I hope so. Remember, doing long, slow easy long runs every weekend will make you an outstanding long, slow distance runner. It doesn’t take skill to run slow but to run fast. There are people all over the world who can jog or run for a few minutes to several miles or kilometers. That being said, it is an art form to run fast over a long period of time. So, in order to make this a reality in your life you have to start changing the way you set up your training. I have created training plans, running courses and coach monthly to help athletes get better results by using leverage. Leverage simply means that you are working smarter and doing more with less.

How Do I Find Performance Coaches?

How many people do you know with multiple degrees that they are not even using? Do you know any highly educated people who are broke? How can someone with a GED make as much in a month as a Ph.D makes in a year? Someone is using leverage and someone else is following the path of working hard. The same goes with fitness training and performance coaching.

Yes, it does take more work when working by yourself. The reason for this is there is no one but yourself that is going to hold you accountable for your results. Again, it is very easy to make mistakes when you don’t know what you don’t know. A performance coach or fitness consultant can work daily, weekly or monthly with the individual to ensure they are using leverage. There are far too many people who have been taught to work hard.

Yes, working hard is admirable. That being said, if you work hard and are broke what have you learned? Would you rather work smart, have more time with your loved ones and earn passive income instead? Yes, there is plenty of money to be made but there is limited time. The problem I have seen with many people both athletes and non-athletes alike is they follow strategies that don’t always work.

I am fascinated by entrepreneurship. The reason is it is very much like endurance sport. It is entirely up to you on how effective and efficient you want to become. What Should I Ask My Performance Coach?

  • What are your short and long-term goals as an athlete
  • What is your focus regarding entrepreneurship i.e. to make a certain amount each month online?
  • Is the percentage of your weekly mileage training at or below your goal race pace to low?
  • What do you think has caused you the biggest issues as an athlete or in business
  • How long have you been an athlete?
  • What are the strategies that have worked and not worked with you in your fitness preparation?
  • How many days a week do you run?
  • What is the longest long run that you normally do?
  • How often do you focus on mental training?

A client needs to also ask a performance coach they hire what they can do to help them get better results. Of course, this is the overall end goal. So, performance coaches have to be approachable and available as well. In addition, they need to be client-focused and not center focused.
