Key Tips to Help You Run Faster

Focus on the right shoe

I support shoes like the on cloud nova and the other magnificent selection of shoes this company has. I wish I would have had these on my feet when I was training years ago. In addition, I ran my PR of 2:19:35 for the marathon in regular Adidas Adizero racing flats that were more of a 3K to 5K shoe. Also, they didn’t have the technology in them that shoes like the on nova cloud has.

Implement Faster, Varied Pace efforts during Your Long Run

Yes, running easy is still very important as is running for long periods of time. The reason being is you are building endurance and burning fat. That being said, to burn fat at race pace you have to improve you body’s lactate tolerance. So, running for longer periods of time at much higher efforts is key. You will not get this physiological adaptation by running long and slow every weekend.

I recommend in the running courses and training plans that I have created here to alternate the effort of your long runs. So, one weekend run a few miles or kilometers of your long runs at 85 to 92% of your maximum heart rate. In addition, dropping a few of those miles or kilometers at paces that are closer to 95 to 100% of your max heart rate. Again, you also want to have some easier efforts sprinkled into your runs as well.

Speed work will help to improve your lactate tolerance considerably. In addition, it will also help your race pace to feel less of an effort. The result is you will be able to hold your race pace longer than your competition. Furthermore, be able to clear lactic acid faster than it is building up. Again, you want to train in such a way to get your race pace to feel more like a tempo run.
