Dubai Marathon 2022: Tips to PR NOW

Are you preparing for the Dubai marathon 2022 event? If so, I am excited you have made it here to RunDreamAchieve. My goal is always to help runners from around the world get the best out of themselves. The marathon is a very tough event. So, you need to use leverage and work smarter, rather than just working hard. How many hard working runners do you know who still don't meet their goals? I have known many over the past 30 years of running and competing. Remember, it isn't about the amount of mileage you are doing as much as it is the quality of the work you are putting in.

The Dubai marathon is an extremely competitive, flat and fast course. That being said, to make it fast you have to be in great shape. So, there really isn't a such thing as a flat course unless the athlete is ready to run fast on it. I would rank this marathon as one of the very best marathons to go after a fast time on. Of course, we are talking about Duabi here. So, picking the right day when temperatures are legitimate is also a strategy you have to think about. I am not a hot weather runner. I ran my personal best time of 2:19:35 on a cool, 43 degree morning.

Will There be a Dubai Marathon 2022?

Yes, the race is currently scheduled to take place on Sunday, 21 January 2022. They are also holding the Dubai running festival on 4 March 2022. So, you may want to check out that race too. One of the biggest mistakes I see many runners make is running too many of their miles or kilometers too slow. Also, running far too fast on their recovery days. The best middle to long distance runners make it look easy for a reason. They train at, near and far below goal marathon race pace and often in training. No, it isn't easy. Yes, the body will adapt to the stress load you are placing on it. That being said, you have to also have a belief in delayed gratification as well.

Great results come with patience. Remember, it takes the body anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks to adapt to any stress you are placing on it. So, the benefits and perks of the workouts you do today will not be seen until several weeks later. Do you want to set a PR at the 2022 Dubai marathon?

If so, make sure you consider doing a 10-day rather than a 3 week taper. I hope you get to read this post prior to the start of the race. If not, use this strategy for a future marathon or practically any distance.

There are far too many runners who start dropping their volume and intensity too far out from their main event. The result is runners go in feeling more tired rather than rested. Again, continue to focus on what you are training your legs to do up until 10 days out. 10 days of rest is plenty of time to go into the Dubai marathon 2022 race feeling ready to go.

What is the Importance of Dubai Marathon?

Dubai is one of the world's premier, highly competitive and major marathon in the world. It also pays very well if you plan on running under a minimum of 2 hours and 5 minutes. Of course, these types of times are for the elite of the elite in the world. There are very few people who can this fast for the marathon. That being said, it is a race where you can run a very fast time on. You have to watch your pacing in the early stages of the race. I have created running courses, training plans and have a private community here all for athletes such as yourself. There are runners out there who are seeking to use leverage. They want to work smart and already know how to work hard.

You also need to start practicing running faster during your long runs. Long, slow running will make you a superior long, slow marathoner. Of course, not everyone out there has a time goal in mind. That being said, many marathoners do. So, they want to be able to sustain race pace for a longer period of time. Also, slow down less than their competition. I recommend doing faster, varied pace long runs followed the following week by a relaxed, easy jog long run. Remember, recovery is essential. There is only so many times you can stress the body anaerobically. You need to also rest. So, running easy on recover days to ensure you adapt to the harder workouts is key.

Is the Dubai Marathon Flat?

Yes, the Dubai marathon is flat. It takes place right on the Dubai coastal road along the coastline. I would recommend eating breakfast at a minimum of 2 hours prior to the start of the race. Also, preferably 3 hours. You want to ensure your food is digested and eliminated from your system prior to the start of the race. What you most certainly do not want is to have to jump in a porta john in the middle of the race. You will lose time and mentally it can play on you as well. The goal with any marathon preparation is to improve your body's lactate tolerance. Yes, running easy is still important. You will still need to build general fitness and endurance. That being said, strength and stamina is what is need to sustain race pace.

I see far too many runners running too many of their miles or kilometers too slow. The best middle to long distance runners run about 40 to 45 percent of their weekly mileage at, near or far below goal marathon race pace. Again, you want to make that goal marathon race pace to feel less demanding. It should feel moderate and not put you in oxygen debt too early in the race. So, faster long runs will help with this. We also focus on doing 1, vo2 max workout per week. Vo2max is highly level running where you are at or near sprint speeds. We can only run anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes at these types of efforts. It will help you make race pace to feel much easier, over time.

Closing Thoughts

Long tempo runs are also very important. How far have you went in your past preparation? 5 miles? 8? I would recommend extending out toward 15 miles (25 kilometers). No, this will not be easy but you can adapt to this with time. Yes, we focus on starting off at around 3 to 4 miles first. Then, moving at further runs at the anaerobic threshold in our running courses and training plans. Do you want personal coaching? If so, you may want to check out our private running community. Lastly, focus on staying as relaxed as you can in training and during the race. Remember, training should be the most demanding. The day of the race is not the day to be overly stressed out and nervous. You can let your competition to that.

Always stay as relaxed as you can. There is no need to waste energy on this when you have already prepared well. Focus too on hydrating better during your race. Dubai takes place in warmer temperatures so make sure you are drinking and not sipping in the race. One of the biggest issues for runners is simply not taking in enough fluid and calories during these longer race. Yes, you may be able to get away with that in a 5K or maybe a 10K, not with the marathon. I hope these tips have been helpful and look forward to hearing about your new personal bests in 2022 and beyond. Make sure to subscribe to the RunDreamAchieve YouTube channel. I create new content each week to help athletes get to the next level in their race preparation.
