Brooklyn Half Marathon 2022: Tips to PR NOW

Seeking a new strategy for your brooklyn half marathon 2022 event? If so, I am glad you have made it here to RunDreamAchieve, the home of running tips. My goal with this post is to provide some tips and strategies to set you up for success. The half marathon distance takes time, effort and patience to get right. I have run 1:07:06 for the half and 2:19:35 for the marathon. So, I understand what is required to sustain pace for long periods of time. It most certainly is not easy. The course has some flat and rolling sections but you can definitely get a new personal best here if you do it right.

Remember, the key to running a fast half marathon is pace sustainment. So, it is essential to start training at, near and far below your goal half marathon race pace. No, it isn't easy to do this. Yes, it can be done but you have to have a belief in delayed gratification. There are far too many runners who second guess themselves. They don't see the results they are looking for quickly enough and start to doubt. I understand as I have been there in the past as well. I started making some changes in the way I prepared and started seeing some big PRs.

How Much Does the Brooklyn Half Marathon Cost?

The price to register for the brooklyn half marathon 2022 event is $155 USD for non-members and $144.50 for NYCRUNS members. So, make sure to get signed up well in advance for this race rather than waiting until the last minute. One of the best recommendations I can share here is to start doing your long runs at faster paces. I used this strategy to drop my marathon PR from 2:43:36 to 2:19:35. In addition, my half from 1:10:31 to 1:07:06. The big issue I see a lot of runners making is running too many of their weekly miles too slow. In addition, they are still running too fast on their easy days.

Remember, the benefits of your hard work come within the rest period. So, you also have to have the same discipline on your easy days as you do on your hard days. It isn't about the volume you are doing if that volume is run too slow. You could be doing 100 miles a week and someone else at 50 and is getting better results. Yes, we hear quality over quantity but it is absolutely true. The hardest working athletes don't always get the results. The smartest athlete usually does.

What is a Respectable Time for a Half Marathon?

I think anyone who can start and finish a marathon is to be respected. We do live in a society that is constantly evaluating for you something. That being said, to be competitive you have to train at fast paces. In fact, paces that are much faster than you ever intend on holding over the 13.1 mile or 21.1 kilometer distance. It takes a massive amount of effort, time and drive in order to run a fast marathon time. I have built a course for runners seeking to break the 2 hour half marathon barrier you may want to check out. In addition, I have training plans for athlete seeking to break 3 hours on down to under 1 hour and 10 minutes.

There are many athletes that see breaking 2 hours as a respectable time. Of course, we all are different. The world record for men is now 57:31 and women, 1:02:52. So, the times being run around the world now are absolutely insane. The key thing for you is to train in such as a way to get race pace to feel easier, less aggressive. You need to focus on periodization. One of the strategies we use is focusing on training for loner periods of time at the anaerobic threshold. You will be racing at or slightly above your anaerobic threshold at the brooklyn half marathon 2022 event. So, it is essential to extend out the length of your long runs. Yes, you need to first start around 3 miles and move toward 8 to 10 miles as you become very fit.

Do You Need to Qualify for the NYC Half Marathon?

You will need to qualify if you are aiming at the NYC half marathon. That being said, the 2022 Brooklyn half marathon does not have a qualifying standard. The price to register is rather high though. That being said, anytime you are going to compete in larger races these prices are normal. The key is to get registered well in advance so that you are not paying any more than you necessarily need to do. Remember, to run fast over the half marathon you also need to focus on speed development. So, do 1, vo2 max workout per week. You will only be able to run a few seconds to only a few minutes at these types of effort. Your vo2 max is your maximum oxygen uptake.

The reason these, as well as longer tempo runs and faster paced long runs are important is this. It helps to make race pace feel more in control. Again, you will to be handle race pace more efficiently than your competition. You also need to make sure you are drinking in the race rather than just sipping. A major mistake runners make is not hydrating properly in their races. You can practice this in training. I always say to make training the most difficult part of your preparation. Your competition should never be able to break you in the race.
