8 Week Half Marathon Training Plan

8 Week Half Marathon Training Plan

I wanted to create an 8 week half marathon training plan designed for beginner and advanced level athletes.

As a 27 year veteran and former 2:19:35 marathoner running has been my passion.

Helping athletes here at rundreamachieve achieve their fitness and financial goals is a my passion now that I have retired from international competition.

I had the great fortune of being on two world armed forces cross country teams with a 13:19 5K runner and a 2:11:35 marathoner who also just so happened to be an Olympian.

I took top American honors finishing in 4th place at the 2007 California International Marathon with a time of 2:19:35.

At the time it was a 2008 USA Olympic Trials “A” standard time (2:20:00 or better).

The training plans that I have built here are designed from the lessons that I learned from the world-class coaches that mentored me.

Additionally, they were built from the strategies I learned from training with the world's top runners.

Athletes from Kenya to Europe to the United States.

Leverage.

Leverage over yourself and your competition.

A common mistake that many runners make is not practicing at or below the pace at which they wish to sustain in the race.

High mileage is not the answer.

I can assure you if I had been running 140 mile weeks at 6:45 to 7:00 mile pace I would have not run a 2:19:35 marathon.

A sub-2:20:00 marathon requires you to have to sustain 5:20 mile pace or faster.

Everyone is different.

You may have the desire to hold 7:00 mile pace for 13.1 miles. To do that, you have to have a strategy in place.

Running 9:45 mile pace every day is not going to do it.

Getting used to running at 5:45-6:00 mile pace, on a regular basis will bring you to the goal you desire.

The Kenyans make it look easy because they spend a lot of time running at speeds far faster than their goal race pace.

They are also just as strict with their easy recovery days.

I've lived with, outran and been beaten by them and understand what it takes to compete with them.

They are no different than you and I.

Obviously, not everyone is seeking to make an Olympic team.

Completing a 5K, half marathon or marathon may be the goal.

Perhaps it is breaking the 2 hour half marathon.

I really can't tell for sure what your goals are but I do know this, the 8 week half marathon training plan I have created will produce results.

What Is The Secret?

You being here at rundreamachieve already tells me you are committed to success.

I have total beginners who visit here to sub 2:30 marathoners and am honored to help assist them in achieving their goals.

The secret is patience and getting used to running at speeds below your goal race pace.

It is also knowing that to do on a weekly basis, day by day and that is how I built the rundreamachieve 8 week half marathon training plan.
